LIFE-SAVING.

N.Z. COUNCIL MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Kew Zealand Council of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held in -the Y.M.C.A. rooms, when Mr G. 15. Billson presided over- a small attendance of delegates. . The secretary, Mr F. J. S. Scott, reported that he had received a. letter from Mr A. B. 'Coleman, of Auckland, stating that' an Auckland Head Centro was, in course, of formation. As the letter was somewhat vague, the secretary had wired for a definite state-, ment,. and had . received a reply that the Centre was formed. It was decided-to recognise', the new Centre as• soon as details of officials, . etc., were received,. and to give some financial assistance if possible. . A letter fr6m the Canterbury Head .Ceiitro suggested that' the Council issue & certificate for resuscitation only, as it was felt that with. the. increased use of electricity every person should, 'have a knowledgo of tlie Schaffer method of resuscitation. It was decided that,. while the. Society should teach resuscitation at every available opportunity, the issue ,'of a certificate for that qualification:alone would not be valued, and would therefore serve no useful purpose. Letters were received from tile Canterbury Surf Association and from prominent Siirf Club officials, making, suggestions- for the improvement of the conditions governing the New. Zealand Surf. Life-Saving championships. The suggestion to do away with tho support position in siirf teams was . not. approved, as it Was-considered, that to-carry out surf rescues in'a heavy sea without a support man would -increase the danger of the beltman losing the patient, and being unable to dive for him. In regard to the four-man surf rescue,, it. . was decided favourably to ' Consider the' suggestion to eliminate, all land drill except >i-wiscitation, and make : the competition ** •'••rm eyent._ - The'secretary reported that ' » > \ written' (o the for Education p ming out the excellent- work done by the.
