PERSONAL. {SPECIAL TO THE TRESS.) GREYMOUTH, September 21. Mr and Mrs Cyril Howard, of Westport, left to-day on a holiday trip to Napier. Mr M. Senior, who was injured by escaping steam at Biley's Foundry, Westport, recently, is progressing satisfactorily at, the Westport Hospital. Mr W. J. Holder will return to New Plymouth to-morrow morning. Mr J. McNaughton, who has been visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs J. E. McNaughton, will return to-morrow to Auckland. Mr H. G. Vincent, of the staff of the Post Office at Palmerston North, lias been transferred to Greymouth and will arrive in a few days' time. Dredge for Westport. The Minister for Marine has advised the Buller Progress League that the matter of purchasing a bucket dredge for use at Westport is at present receiving very careful consideration. Hotel Changes Hands. Mr Mark Fagan has disposed of his interest in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Westport, to Mr George Smith, of Wellington, and formerly of Westport. Supreme Court, The Greymouth sitting of the Supreme Court was held to-day before his Honour Mr Justice Adams. In the case Biehard "Waldemar Baumgart v. Harry Ludwig Breitstadt, claim for £279, special and general damages for alleged breach of agreement and application for to be taken, Mr J. W. Ilannan, who appeared for plaintiff, stated that the case had been settled, and Mr W. J. Joyce, on behalf of defendant., asked that it be struck out. This was done. Under the terms . of the settlement plaintiff receives £206 as from defendant in full satisfaction of all claims, and plaintiff is tp pay £lO 10s to Mr A. Naylor for taking accounts in connexion with the action, each party to pay his own costs.
In the case Peter Johii Higgins, Charles Fawcett, and George William Fawcett (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) v. Gunnersen Nosworthy Proprietary, Ltd. (Mr W. P. McCarthy), claim for £7IOO damages for alleged breach of contract and application for accounts to be taken, Mr Kitchingham said that negotiations were proceeding b.etween the parties, and it was hoped that finality would be reached. It was therefore proposed to ask for an adjournment. In view of the long period before the next sitting of the Court at Greymouth in March next, it was suggested for his Honour's approval that the parties might be permitted to bring the case on at the November session of the Supreme Court at Christcliureh at ten days' notice. Both parties'were agreeable to that procedure.
The case was adjourned sine die, and leave was given to the parties to apply for trial at Christehureh on ten days' notice.
In the bankruptcy ease of Edward John Hill (creditors' petition) Mr J. W. Hannan represented the petitioning creditor, and Mr W. P. McCarthy the debtor. Mr McCarthy requested that the application be adjourned for one month as certain arrangements were being made by Mr Hannan aud himself. His Honour agreed and adjourned the application until October 21st, the application to be dealt with by the Registrar. Mary fciddulph (Mr J. W. Hannan) petitioned for divorce from Benjamin Biddulph. A decree nisi was granted. Florence Lctitia Filer (Mr F. A. Kitchingham), in a divorce siut against Thomas Filer, -moved for a decree absolute. His Horioiir granted the decree absolute, with permanent custody of the child to the petitioner. Cobden Daffodil Show. The Cobden Daffodil Show was held to-day in the Cobden School Gymnasium. In addition to the flower display there was a very fmo exhibition of cookery. Some of the finest and latest catalogued varieties of daffodils were shown, one stand being occupied by Mr A. B. Spiers, of Kumara, and another by Mr D. W. Bradbury, of Christehureh. Both exhibits commanded considerable interest, and in addition to the display of flowers and cookery there were stalls for sale of plain and fancy sewing, sweets, cookery, and a tea-room. The principal awards in the daffodil section were as follows: Champion Bloom, Mr Field ('''White Emperor") 1. Six trumpet daffodils (varieties) —Mrs Oliver 1. Six oups of crocus (varieties) —Mrs East 1 and 2. Six daffodils, any variety—Mrs Schultze 1. Three cups or crowns, varieties—Mrs Field 1, F. Cochrano 2. Three daffodils, any variety—Mrs Barrett !,• Mrs Schultze 2. Three white or cream trumpets, any variety—Mr Fcild 1. Throe jonquils, any variety—Miss J. McLauclilan 1, Mrs Oliver 2. Three spikes narcissus— Mrs Oliver 1, Mrs Barrett 2. Bowl daffodils (1) —Mrs Oliver 1.
Inangaliua By-Election. The by-election for the vacancy. on the Inangahua County Council caused by tlie resignation of Mr A. M. Carroll, resulted in the election of Mr D. Pankluirsfc, who secured a majority of 36 votes over his opponent, Mr 11. L. Morgan. Tlie Woather, For the twenty-four hours prior to 9 a.m. to-day the rainfall at Greymouth totalled 154 points. Very little rain fell to-day, but* the weather is squally with threatening overhead conditions. The rivers are considerably swollen. round Dead. A youth named James Moore, aged 10 years, was found lying dead on tho floor of a cowshed at Stillwater this afternoon. He was last seen alive at about 10.30 this morning, when he appeared to be in good health and spirits. His parents, Mr and Mrs' Maurice Moore, arc well-known residents of the Brunner district. An inquest will be held to-morrow afternoon.
