RESEARCH WORK.
QUESTION OF APPOINTMENT. TJie question aS to whether someone should be engaged to take charge of the investigations of the Research Committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was discussed at a meeting of the Council of the Society last night. The matter has been under consideration fof the past two years. Mr Clark stated that the Research Committee should have a capable oian at its head Tho society should be prepared to pay £3OO to £SOO to a suitable man. The society coukl well afford to. Those oil the committee at the present time did not have enough time to give to the matt-er, and in saying this, he was not casting any reflections on their ability. Professor Speight slated that it would be of great assistance to the committee if the council would give some idea of what it was prepared to nay Mr C. J. Sloman stated that before any sum was decided on. they should know how much time the man wouid be putting into tho work. On the motion of Mr R. Ashvonh. it was decided that the Research and Finance Committees bring down reports on the matter.
