Unemployment in Britain. London, September 20.—The Secretary for Labour announces that the registered unemployed total 1,052,600, a decrease of 409,324 compared with one year ago. Train Hits Omnibus. Prague, September 20. —A train dashed into an omnibus on a level crossing and smashed it to matchwood. Five persons were killed and twenty injured, five seriously. ✓ , U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. Washington, September 20.—President Coolidge has appointed Mr Dwight Morrow, intimately connected with the J. P. Morgan Company, as Ambassador to Mexico. Earthquake in Habart. Hobart, September 21. —A distinct earth tremor lasting for several seconds was experienced to-day. Houses shook and many people rushed into the streets fearing that buildings would collapse, but no damage was reported. Australian High Commissioner's Residence. . London, September 20.—Australia has purchased Lord Castlemaine's house at 18 Ennismore Gardens, for the High Commissioner's official residence. A Tintoretto for Australia. Melbourne, September 21.—The trustees of the Fclton Bequest have purchased for the National Art Gallery Tintoretto's famous picture of the Doge c Pietro Loredano, from the collection of Prince Lichnowsky, formerly Gorman Ambassador to Britain. The price was 14,000 guineas. Floods in Mexico. Mexico City, September 21. —A Government relief train was unable to reach the flood sufferers in the Lerma Valley. Thousands are hungry and homeless, huddled on the hills and on housetops. It is asserted that the floods cover an area 124 miles wide in parts.
