BOROUGH COUNCIL.
RANGIORA. The fortnightly meeting of tie Hangiora Borough Council was held last evening. Present —Mr W. A. Rowse (Mayor), Councillors C. I. Jennings, A. E. Evans, K. H. Bailey, C. \V. Tyler, C. S. Ayers, H. K. Kippenberger, ,T. J. Matthews, and J. F. Sutherland. Prior to the general business being taken a special meeting: of tho Council was held, when the resolution to re-name certain streets in the borough was confirmed. Ju his remarks to the Council the Mayor stated that he had noticed a statement mado by the Mayor of Riccarton that the Riccarton Borough "was as far as he knew- the only borough ill New Zealand to 'reduce their general rate this year. This statement was incorrect, as the Kangiora Borough Council had reduced their general rate one farthing in the pound. The Kangiora Borough had also reduced their electric charges by one penny a unit, and also reduced the price of gas by lOd per 1000 feet. A letter was received from the Department of Health requesting the Council to recommend tho name of an assessor on the Board of Appeal concerning the drainage requisition. The Town Clerk, in his monthly report, stated that at » meeting of from contributory subdivisions of the Ashlv River Trust, which he attended as delegate from the Council, the following changes in the representation were recommended: Kangiora County 3, Kangiora Borough 2. Ashley-Kowai 2 i representatives, and tho Government nominee. The meeting also recommended the Trust to have the river district altered to enclose land of A and 15 clsses, and as there was no C class land, D class lands bo excluded.
The report was adopted. In dealing with tho report of tho Electrical Engineer concerning the poles required for replacement, tho recommendation of the Finance Committee, that the purchase of new poles bo held over for the present, pending enquiry from the agents regarding steel poles, was approved. It was decided to approve of the recommendations of tho joint committee that litf action be taken regarding tho amount of £250 placed on the Parliamentary Estimates for recreation purposes. In reply to a letter received from Dr. T. P. Telford, asking for information for tho Trades Commissioner as to what the Council's requirements would be likely to be for pipes, etc., for drainago purposes, it was decided to notify Dr. Telford that tho Council regretted that it was not disposed to supply information concerning drainage matters until the appeal had been dealt with It was decided to call for tenders for the erection of conveniences at the Town Hall. It was decided to hold a Bpecial meeting of tho Council on October 3rd to consider the taking of a loan poll for a modified water and sewerage scheme. The application of the secretary of the Catholic Bazaar Committee to hold a street sale of gifts on October 11th was granted.
