Mr A. J. Bridgewater has returned to Timaru after a brief visit to Cliristehurch.

Mr H. R. Milner, who has been visiting Wellington, will return to Christehurch to-day. Mr J. S. Neville, the Town Clerk, returned yesterday from a trip to Nelson and the West Coast.

Professor F. X. SchafFer (Vienna) arrived in Ohristchurch yesterday, and is staying at Warner's Hotel.

Mr J. A. C. Bayne, Chief Inspector of Mines, is at present visiting the West Coast on official business.

Mr A. T. Donnelly, Crown Prosecutor, returned to Christehurch yesterday morning from Wellington. The Hon. Mr Witty, M.L.C., was among the passengers to Christehurch by yesterday's ferry from Wellington. Mr T. B. Strong. Director of Education, arrived in Christehurch yesterday morning. Mr Justice Frazer was among the passengers to Christehurch by yesterday morning's ferry from the north. Mr W. D. Gordon, secretary _ for the Wellington branch of the Dominion Motors, Ltd., is. at . present visiting Christehurch.

The Rt. Rev. Dr. James Whyte, Roman Catholic Bishop of Dunedin, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning from the north.

Recent arrivals at Warner's - Hotel include Messrs R. J. Murphy (Wellington), A. Thompson, and J. A. (Auckland). - . Mr J. W. Collins, secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. Guests at the Clarendon Hotel include Messrs A. H. Flower (Melbourne), J. C. Young (Palmerston North), and A. S. Hefford (Wellington).

Mr P. F. Peoples, who for the past four years has acted as secretary to the Mahakipawa Goldfields, Ltd., is leaving Christchurch, ancr nas resigned his position. Mr James Hutchins, Public Accountant, has been appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr G. H. Bradford, Secretary of the New Zealand Poultry Association, left for Wellington on Monday evening to represent the poultrymeh at a deputation to Mr G. Craig, Controller of Customs, concerning the proposed removal of the embargo on the importation of egg pulp.

Sir Apirana Neata, M.P. for the Eastern Maori electorate for the past 22 years, arrives on Friday morning for a short stay in Christchurch. On Friday night, Sir Apirana, who graduated at Canterbury College in 1897, will lecture at the college on "Maori as a Degree Subject" in the Little Theatre at eight o'clock.
