GUN CLUBS.
ELLESMERE. The Ellesmere Gun Club held a sparrow shoot at Lakeside for possession o£ the Loeston Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club's trophy. The match was at eight birds, andsixteen shooters competed. The sparrows were an active lot, and were assisted in their flight by a favourable wind. Mr AV. R. Donald refcrced the day's shooting. Tho winner of the trophy was R. Thian, who killed seven birds out of the eight. J. Winchester, R. Donald, and E. A. Washbourne divided the sweep attached to the trophy. Following this shoot, the shoot-off for the trophy given by Mr P. G. Frampton for the highest score in the Vale Shield match was fired. At this match fivo shooters, P. Alexander, L. Lemon, li. Thian, R. Donald, and E. A. Washbourne, each had a score Of eight. Tho shoot-off was conducted on the first-miss-out principle after the first three birds! At the end of the sixth round Donald and Washbourne were the only shooters left in, and Washbourno won the trophy ou the seventh round. V
In a six-bird sweep, R. Thian, R. Donald, W. Quigley, and A. Strez, with five kills each out of six, divided the money. A first-miss-out sweep was won by E. A. Washbourne on tho fifth round, and another was divided by J. Winchester and R. Power on the fifth round.
Three trench sweeps' concluded the day's shooting. The first and second Were won by R. Power, and the third by P. Alexander.
