IMPROVEMENT SCHEME.

CITY COUNCIL'S DIFFICULTY.

The possibility of the scheme for the improvement of Cathedral Square not being gone on with by the City Council was referred to at yesterday's meeting of the Tramway Board.

A motion was before the Board authorising application being made to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction of a loan for £IOOO, the Board's contribution towards tho improvements. Mr J. A. Flesher asked if there was not some difliculty in regard to the currying out of the scheme. The chairman said that the City Council was experiencing some difficulty, but the Board had to get the loau sanctioned before it could go along. Mr Flesher: If the City Council don't go ahead we shall not want the money.

The chairman : If so, we need not go beyond this point. The motion was agreed to.
