WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Wuimairi County Council was held last night. There were present: Crs. J. Cleland (chairman), T. 0. Newnham, W. J. Walter, G. Shipley, H. Kitson, W. P.. Spencer, C. E. Cross, and G. T. lluleock.
The report of the Finance Committee .stated that the Riccarton Borough accounts for the maintenance of Boundary roads were considered excessive. It was recommended that thelticcarton Council be asked to appoint an arbitrator for the purpose of defining a reasonable rate Of charge for this class of work. The Electricity Committee's report stated that Mr Wyles, of Fendalton road, had agreed to pay 30s a year for an additional street lamp. This was approved. The Paparua County Council had also agreed to pay half the cost of additional lamps at the corner of Middlepark and Yaldhurst roads and Bainey's corner and Hanson's lane. This matter was left in tho hands of tho chairman and the Engineer. The tender of Metropolitan Vickers, Ltd., was accepted for the supply of a transformer. , The tender of Mr J. E. Smith for the erection of a brick house in the Papanui yard for £BO6 wtfs accepted. The Electrical Engineer reported that thirteen new consumers had been connected during August; additions to existing consumers' installations were 39. The total connected load for the month was 136.5 k.w., being a record load for one month.
The report of the Works Committee stated that it had been, (jecided to form a footpath at. the Church frontage at the corner of Jeffreys and Bryndwr roads. The committee had also decided to carry out tho Council's portion of the work in connexion with the bituminous seal coat on tho Lincoln road. ■
In connexion with the City's proposal to construct a hot mix road on the North Park road K the county's share would be £932. Only £2OO had been allowed on the estimates for this road. It was decided to proceed with the work if approved for an uncmploy : ment loan and a £ for £ subsidy can be obtained. The County Clerk's report stated that the County Fund Account showed a credit of £847 12s, and tho Loans, Account a credit of £1506 lis 4d. Tho Burwood Progress League wrote asking that the Council contrpl the speed of motor-lorries ftt Burwood, It was. decided to instruct the traffic inspector to take action against offenders. A letter was received from the Railway Department advising that tho freight on road metal cannot be reduced. It was decided to ask the Local Bodies interested in the transport of Birdling's Plat shingle to approach the Minister for Kailways in regard to this matter. . , A grant of £2O was made to tho Technical College.
