At a special meeting of the Borough Council last night, which was taken in committee, the duties of the traffic inspector were discussed. Prize-winners at the South School social were: Messrs T. Harris 1, 11. Head 2. At the Main School's social, which took place in the schoolroom, prizes m the card competition were won by Mrs lie id, Miss Morgan, and Mr J. Burns. At a meeting of the South Canterbury Eugby* Union last night, Mr C. Kibblewliifce. was. appointed to referee the South Canterbury v. North Otago match at Waimate on Saturday. Permission was granted for the playing of the two games, Timaru Y.M.C.A. v. Dunedin Y.M.C.A. at Timaru, and Teinuka fourth grade v. Eangiora at Temuka on Saturday. Final arrangements were made for the smoke concert to be tendered to the South Canterbury Keferecs' Association.
Higfc. Schools Board. At a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Timaru High Schools yesterday, the Education Department, writing in reply to the Board's request for the erection of a metal workshop and wool-sorting room at the Boys' Seliool asked that the Board furnish au estimate of the cost of erecting and equipping the building, and,also asked if it were possible: that arrangements could be made between the Rector of the High School and the Principal of the Technical College, whereby pupils could be taught metal work at the college. It was decided to adopt the suggested dates of terms for secondary schools as set forth in the. Education. Department's circular. The Education Department wrote approving of a subsidy of £SO towards the formation of the proposed tennis courts. Carnival. Tliero was a large attendance at the Defence Rifle Club's carnival, which was continued last niglit. The results of the l tug-of-war contests were as follows: — Challenge pulls —McConacliy beat Goulds by 4s inches; Alhambra B grade beat Alliance C grade by 13 inches. B grade final —Rowing Club beat Enfield by one inch. C grade Shillitos beat St. Andrews by three-quarters of an inch; Hilton beat Gleniti No, 2 by a quarter of an inch; .Challenge pull: Teruuka unemployed. beat Bingwood by half an inch. PLEASANT POINT. The Football Club took advantage of their annual dinner to bid farewell to three of their prominent members who are leaving the district —Messrs B. Felton, A. Hargreaves, and A. Robb. The function was held in the Public Hall, the president, Mr M/F.' Maze, presiding. A lengthy toast-list was gone through, and an enjoyable musical programme submitted. GERALDINE. The annual meeting of the Gcraldine Band of Hope took place in the Parish Hall, Mr Watts occupying the chair, pro tern, and the Kev. H. Ford acting as secretary.
