TOBACCO THIEVES.
LARGE QUANTITIES STOLEN AT AUCKLAND. (PMSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, Setember 19. Tobacco thieves have made their appearance in . Auckland again. During the . week-end. the premises of IrvingClarke, merchant and comriiission agent, A'nzac avenue, were broken into and tobacco to the value of between £SO and £6o' was stolen. • • Many strands of barbed wire did not prevent the thieves from entering the building. This .wire had been placed along the back of the building lacing Beac|i. road. After an attempt had been made to break into the building some time ago strands of wire were placed above . the corrugated iron fence and made a formidable line of defence. However, th& thieves climbed through the wire and broke through a rear window after removing a strong iron bar. Mr Clarke said y this morning that a large number of general orders had been made up ready for distribution and could have been carried away quite easily. These, however, were not disturbed, the. thieves contenting themselves with tobacco.
