MAYFIELD.
A meeting of the Mayfield branch of the Plunket Society was held in the vestry of the Presbyterian Church, on Wednesday afternoon, the president, Mrs N Wardell, presiding over the following members: Mesdames D. J. Morrow, H. 0. Barton, J. McCormick, G. B. Murdock, J. H. Patterson, J. Murdoch, J. A. Fleming, E. W. Roberts, O. Creswell, H. Dellow, T. Mulligan, J., Orchard, and J. J. Mulligan. It decided to send six members to assist the Ashburton branch on Daffodil Day. Mrs E. W. Roberts, of Anama, was elected a member of the Society.. It was decided to issne cards to members which will enable them to attend any Plunket Society meeting. A discussion took place concerning the annual children's fancy dress party, and it was decided to hold it in the hall on the first Friday afternoon in ber, the clasßes for f 'the judging tobe the same as last year, namely, sixteen.
RAKAIA. ,The annual meeting of the Rakaia Horticultural Society was held in the library on Thursday evening, Mr C. Shannon presiding over a good attendance. The balance-sheet submitted by the treasurer, Mr D. Newman, showed a satisfactory state of affairs. The receipts were £IOO 10s 4d and expenditure £9O 13s 4d, leaving a balance in hand, of £9 17s on the year's working. There is also a credit balance of £62 18s lid in the Post Office Savings Bank. The balance-sheet was adopted. The following officers were pointed for the ensuing year:—Patron, the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; president, Mr G. S. Hardy; vice-pre-sidents', • Lady Rhodes, Mesdames Jones, Hardy, Bagley, Miss Goodwin, Messrs D. Jones, M.P., R. Oakley, B. McNamara, H. Muckle, J. Connolly, M. P. Cooke, Langford, M. T. Healey, and H. NickoUs; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Newman; committee, Messrs O. Shannon (chairman), G. Clark, W. SheUock, C. C. Evison, R. Moodie,. A. Oliver, J. Allen, S. ConnoUy, J. McCoy, J. Duncan, C. Liddington, Mesdames Black, Newman, Behrnes, Evison, C. Shannon, A. Shannon, Liddington, and Cooke. Messrs M.; P. Cooke and 0. Evison were appointed trustees for the savings bank account. . A vote of thanks was passed -. to. Mrs Boag for her services as president during the past two years. It was decided to hold the spring show ; on - September 22nd, the date of the autumn show to be fixed later. The schedule was revised and several small alterations were made, the children's section being left in the hands of Mr Cooke.
