TROUBLESOME FIREMEN.
KARORI HELD UP, (SPECIAL TO THE tBBSS.) GREYMOUTH, July So. Trouble occurred with tho firemen on the s.s. Karori at Westport on Saturday evening, and held up the departure of the vessel until yesterday morning. It was alleged that a fireman lay down on the wharf and refused to go aboard the vessel, whereupon the donkeyman went ashore anc* carried him on to the boat. The other firemen took exception to this, insisting that their comrade should not be brought on board by force, and they left the boat, which consequently could not sail until Sunday morning's tide. When the trouble started, Captain Crowe, Assistant Harbour Master, went to let the wire rope go in order that the bow of the vessel might swing back to the wharf. One of the firemen, thinking the captain was letting the vessel go, tackled him, and got him down, and Mr Morris,' of the "Westport Harbour staff, went to the captain's assistance. More firemen came on the scene, N and things were lively for a time, Captain* Crowe sustaining a black eye, and Mr Morris facial injuries before the action was called off.
