BRACKENFIELD HUNT.

The final meet of the 1927 season took place on Thursday, July 28th, when hounds met at the residence of Mr and Mrs Hector Mcintosh, of Kaiapoi. Although tho frosty morning and clear day gave promise of scent being good, a warm breeze sprang up, and as most of the country hunted over was in the region of the sandhills, scent proved patchy. Anything in the nature of a long run, with no checks was manifestly impossible, and an over-supply, of hares further complicated matters. However, those following were .well content with their day's hunting over gorse and wire fences, with numerous ditches and drains to try out the jumping capabilities of their mounts. Several horses entered for the club's Point-to-Foint Steeplechase meeting at Swannanoa on Thursday, July 28th, were out, and gave promise of a good day's racing. Hounds were cast off in one of Mr Mcintosh's paddocks, and a hare was soon viewed making towards the scrub. After dodging through a few patches of gorse puss made for the beach, and took a line along the foot of the sandhills, .circled left-handed towards Mr Parnham's, and after hounds had checked several times she was pulled down near the plantation road. Scent then started to fade, and the remainder of the day was taken up with short runs over Messrs Parnham's, Fear's, and Edwards's country. At 3 p.m. hounds were packed up, and the field adjourned to the homestead, where they were hospitably entertained by Mr and Mrs Mcintosh.
