COUNTY COUNCILS.
CHEVIOT. The monthly meeting of the Cheviot County Council was held on Saturday, when there were present:. Messrs J. H L. Hiatt (chairman), T. Stevenson/ S. Douglas, D. McLaren, and A. McGifiert. The Waipara County Council wrote concerning the matter of severance from the Xorth Canterbury hospital area, and forwarded the following minute passed by their ratepayers: "That this meeting of ratepayers is more than concerned in the steady increase in the annual hospital assessment; that a protest be made to the Board, and that the Amuri, Cheviot, and Kaiiouxa Counties be approached with a view to taking steps to secure severance, and the forming of a new hospital area." Figures were also forwarded showing a reduction on the levy on the Cheviot County from £ 1931 6a 9d to £637 4s 6d. After considerable discussion, it was decided not to support the proposal. The figures produced made no allowance for the installation of modern equipment, fever hospital, and medical staff, etc. .
The engineer reported that 490 cubic yards of shingle had been carted and spread on various roads, and that several roads had been graded. The recent heavy rain caused a number of slips and washouts, repairs of which were in hand. ~ Permission was granted to D. Sheffield to erect a kerbside pump at Parnassus.
