SHOP ASSISTANTS' DISPUTE.
(MESS ASSOSXATIOfr TELEGRAM 1 .)
WELLINGTON, July 19,
Following on the Arbitration Court ordering the whole of the shop assistants' dispute back to the Conciliation Council for reconsideration, Mr A. Croskery, secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Shop Assistants, states that the unions are now as they were before the Conciliation Council sitting at which an agreement in connexion with hours was arrived at. This means that the closing hours are 5.30 on four days of the week, 8.30 on late nights, and 1 o'clock on Saturdays. The secretary of the Wellington Drapers, Clothiers, and Boot Retailers' Association states that the retailers do not admit any right on the part of the union to dictate in regard to shopping hours. An honourable agreement was come to, and they do not propose to close at 8.30 on Friday night.
