THE POTATO CROP.

. , TO THE EDITOR 0T THE PRESS. Sir, —"Would you grant me space to write a few words, about ''Consumer's" letter in this morning's paper. He starts off by ragging "Fair Trade's" letter of last Thursday, and ends up by saying little or nothing in support of the Government Statistician's figures relating to , this season's potato crop. Why, if the North Island is such an important potato-growing district and yields are so big, do Auckland and Wellington, draw their main supply from Canterbury ? Also, I would like "Consumer" to inform us of his source of information about these 15-tons-to-the-acre crops, as, anyone acquainted with potato growing knows that these crops are phenomenal any year.—Yours, etc., JUST A SCRATCHES. July 18th, 1927.
