RIVAL UNIONS.
1 SPLIT IN SEAMEN'S RANKS. [THE PBEBS Special Serrice.] WELLINGTON, April 5. Some indication of the relative strengths of the two factions of seamen unionists may be gathered from the following: — Two meetings of seamen unionists were held simultaneously in "Wellington yesterday. At the Sydney street Schoolroom, commencing at 8 a.m., a meeting of the Federated Seamen's Union of New Zealand was attended by 223 seamen. Mr F. P Walsh (president) occupied the chair. A quantity of routine business was transacted and the meeting terminated at 10.30 a.m. At the Trades Hall another meeting of an opposition Federated Seamen'e Union of New Zealand was presided over by Mr C. B. Fittes (general president). There were 20 seamen present.
