DEPUTATION TO MR COATES. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TBLEGEAJC.) WELLINGTON, April 5. A deputation to Mr Coates and Mr Rolleston urged reconsideration of the Railway Department's decision to dispense with the services of 25 bush workers' in the Government forests at Pokaka and Erua, on the Main Trunk Line. Notices issued on March £4th stated that the dismissal was due to reorganisation of the logging and sawmilling departments. Mr W. Nash urged that transfers be made in the summer. Mr Jones, chairman of the RailwayBoard, said that timber was being over-produced for the Department. The men understood that their engagement would end about Blaster. Mr Coates said that there could not be any permanency in bush work of this kind. He would go into the question with Mr Rolleston and Mr Jones to see if there was any method to employ the men. A decision would be arrived at before Saturday.
