HELPING THE BLIND.
JUBILEE INSTITUTE. ' [tHE PEBSS Special Service.] s AUCKLAND, April 5. Interest aroused as a result of a recent attack on the management of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind was responsible for a record attendance at the annual meeting. Mr H. E. Vaile, chairman of the Board of Trustees, presided. Referring to the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund, Mr Vaile said it now amounted to £62,000. This revenue enabled them to give practical help to blind people all over the Dominion, financing them into businesses, trades, farms, and homes, and solving difficulties which formerly would have effectually prevented many blind persons from becoming established in independence. Their activities under this fund were legion, and the results were deeply gratifying. The Hon. Mr Fowlds expressed the opinion that in recent criticism Mr Aldis had done serious injustice to all concerned. The Institute had been wellmanaged and the results obtained during Mr Mackenzie's regime had been marvellous. The two retiring members of the , Board of Trustees, Messrs H. E. Vaile and F. W, Wake, were re-elected by an overwhelming majority. The result of the election was as follows:—Mr Vaile 104 votes, Mr Wake 101, Mr Morton Aldis 17, Mrs M. Dreaver 13 ! Mr Vaile was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Board.
