In the seventh round of a boxing contest for the middle-weight championship, Dwyer claimed that he had been hit low by Edwards (holder of the title), and was given the decision. Bedlam immediately broke loose. Three beer bottles were thrown into the ring, and those nearby were showered with broken glass, though no serious casualties resulted. The referee had his left eye, nose, and right temple bruised and cut.'
