The Assembly is discussing the Metropolitan Milk Bill, under which it is proposed that the Government will create a Board for the organisation and distribution ol" milk in the metropolitan area of Sydney, consisting of representatives of the prodqeers and the consumers, the former holding a majority. The Board will have power to fix prices, allocate blocks for distribution, regulate trausport, make a levy on milk for the creation of a fund to acquire any interest that might be necessary, and raise jouns against assets. Its duties also include the grading of milk, distributing it in sealed containers, eliminating wasteful and unhygienic methods, and carrying out research relating to milk and its products. In moying a second reading, Mr Dunn, Minister for Agriculture, said the value of the milk sold in Sydney was £2,200,000 a year, of which tho producers got £BOO,OOO and tjje retail vendors £883,000. The main purpose of the Bill was the regulation of trade. Tie Board would not go into the trade if the present organisations'were hrought up to tho standard required. The present Bill was a challenge to the existing organisations to perfect their methods.
