W.E.A: LECTURE. That the present age' is one of transition and that we are Hearing the end, when fresh developments may be expected, is the opinion of Mr H. G. Miller, whose lecture on the history of the last half century was read by Professor Shelley to a meeting ofthe.W.E.A. last evening. The lecturer traversed the history of Britain since 1880, and. gave a historical account of the great social and political movements. He also touched on the progress of industry, and the rise of the labouring classes. At the' present-time, also, he describe# the' nation as being in a fog, not knowing, whither to turn. This had been the case many times in history, and the lesson of history, should be to show what path to take. In this way history repeated itself. The speaker drew a parallel between the' conditions reigning to-day and those of one hundred years ago, both periods after exhausting wars.
