A HARLEQUIN CABARET. during the royal visit. An outstanding feature among the entertainments to be organised during the four days of tho Royal visit 13 a harlequin cabaret, to be presented at the Caledonian Hall by Captain and the Hqu. Mrs Tahu Rhodes. It is not necessary to dwell upon the unfailing popularity of these most original productions "... tho invariable rush to book tables is sufficient tribute in itself. This particular cabaret will be the last of its kind as the organisers leave New Zealand for England in J una . . . and, judging by rehearsals, it promises to be even more brilliant than its predecessors. In the opening number, "Sitting 011 Top of the World," no fewer than forty performers take part, and a huge globe, with a harlequin seated on top of it, will be carried round the hall supported by a chorus of scarlet columbines. Among the other attractions are two ballets from the Iris Montgomery School of Dancing and two \> Inch haive been trained by Miss Mulvany Gray. 'Hie programme will conclude with a battle of flowers between the audience and the performers. . Bailey's Band will plav throughout the evening. The proceeds aro to assist the Anglican and Presbyterian orphanages of Canterbury. In addition to JL'Jo from the eifc stall which was sent to Dr. G. J. Blackmore for the children in the Fresh Air Home, there was a surplus of £l2 from the exhibition. "If we had just the members' subscriptions to depend on," Miss Bevin r.dclcd, 'we would have to borrow from the Government, as wo would be bankrupt."
