BOROUGH COUNCILS.

KAIAPOI. Tho fortnightly meeting of the Borough' Council wa a hold last night. Present—Tho Mayor (Mr H. Mcintosh), Councillors W. H. Stark, J. Hirst, It. J. Dunn, W. A. .Young, E. P. Joyce, -F. Thorite, J. W. Barnard, and 6. E. Gillctt. Tho Under-Secretary for the Department of Internal Affairs wrote advising that in accordance with tho Fire Brigades Act, 1026, it was neoessary lor tho Council to elect two members to the Kaiapoi Fire Board, tho election to bo held during February. Tho letter was receivod, and the Mayor and Cr. Dunn wore appointed r the Councils representatives on tho Board. Tho Riccarton Borough Council wrote asking if tho Council would instruct *its delegate to tho Municipal Conference to support a remit that tho Government be urged to abolish tho existing Main Highways Board aud sot up ono each for tho r*crth and South Islands. • _ ~ The letter was receired, and it was decided to instruct tho Council's delegate to flUDport c tho proposal. The secretary of tlio Pincß Association wrote asking permission to sink a deep well at tho Pines, Kaiapoi Beach, tho Pine* Association to bear tho first cost of £lO and pay for tho sinking. Tho Association also advised that they proposed to approach tho Council in April with a view of obtaining a robato of £2O towards tho cost of sinking the well. Tho letter was received, and on the recommendation of th« Finance Committee, tho sum of £2O was granted towards the of tho well.- . Tho Borough Solicitors, Messrs Pappiill, Salter, And Gresson, wrote advising that titles for tho beach reserves had been received, and that titles could now be given to the various lessees in terms of their leases. Tho letter was received. Applications for tho lease of potions at tho Pines were received from Mr E. J. Good, section No. 69; Mr F. G. Taylor, section No. 50. The applications wero granted. _ < The Resident Engineer for tho District Fli-hwnys Council wrote advising that tho Eyre County Council had prepared plang ot tho Christchurch-Kangiora road deviation near Girder bridge, and asked the Council to opprove the taking of tho land as set out on tho tracings enclosed. The letter was received,- and th® approval was deferred until the conference, with the Evre County Council. _ The Mayor was appointed the Council a representative to attend tho Municipal ConBrown's application to extend his billiard saloon hours from 10 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. was B ranl ?' l, .,„ t i,.
