BRIDGE PARTY AT DIXIELAND. More than a week ago the Honourable Mrs Tahu Rhodes invited many of her friends to assist her in raising funds for the orphans' section.of tho military pageant by means of a monster bridge party, and in response to that invitation about two hundred people gathered at JDixteland ast. night, .bridge tables were arranged in the loungo and ballroom, and a dchctous home-madesupper was served downMrs Guy Cottcrill, Mrs Harold Barker, and Miss Betty Cottorill assisted Mrs Rhodes in attending to the comfort of tho plavers, and everyone seemed thoroughly, pleased with the evening is entertainment. Thanks to tho kindness of Mr Dickson, tho expenses will not be very great, and tho orphans' fund will bo considerably augmented as the result of the party. • The players included: Hon. MAGRATtt-HALLIDAY. A pretty wedding; was celebrated recently at" the Uxtord terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch. when Mavis, youngest daughter of Mrs and tho late Mr G. S. Halliday, of St. Albans, Christchuich, was married to John Andrew, eldest son of Mr ami Mrs E. Magrath, of Masterton. The Hev. J. Robertson, 13.A., officiated, and Mr L. L. 13oot presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr D. 13. llalliday, wore an ivory crepe do chine frock, made on simple- lines, and a tulle veil, with wreath of silver leaves. She carried a white shower bouquet. The bridesmaid. Miss Rita Llianey, Christchurch, wore salmon pink silk voile, trimmed with georgette, and hat to match, and s'ic earned a bou(inet of roses to tone. Mr A 11. R. Magrath. of the Royal Ni'w Zealand Navy, attended his brother as best man. A reception was afterwards held at tho Winter Garden, where, the bride's mother received the guests, wearing a black silk marocain frock, relieved with roval blue, and a black hat. When Mr and Mrs J. Tho bride was given away by her lather She wore a gown (if ivory georgette, fashioned with a long bodice and an overskirt of lace falling in long Vandykes. Her lotiir embroidered veil, arranged from a coronet of lace and orange blossom, formed the train and she carried a bouquet of pink and white flowers with long ribbon streamers. Miss Gladys Watt attended her sister as bridesmaid, and wore a simple frock of delphinium bine crope dc c" r nc made with a plain bodico and niching nt the hips. Her hat of hois de rose crinoline straw was trimmed with velvet ribbon, and sho carried a bouquet to tone. The bridegroom was attended bv Mr T. Mollison as best man. Following the ceremony, a reception was held «' the Winter Garden, where the guests were received by Mrs Watt who was wearinc u handsome frock or black crepe de chine mado with a front pleated panel on the skirt and trimmed with white and black embroiderien. Her hat was of black crinolino straw-, with ribbon trimming, and she carried a bouquet of scarlet flowers and fern. Mrs Mollison, mother of tho bridegroom, wore an unusual frock of-bois de rose erepe de chine, fashioned witty an inset vest in a deeper shade, and a hat to lone. When the bride left for her wedding tour, she wore an ensemble suit of doep claret shade. Tho frock of crepe do chine was hand-hemstitched in vnndvkes at the waist and had a crystal pleated nanel in the skirt. The coat of tweed had a bloused effect at the back and was box-pleated in front. Her hat of oak apple brown was trimmed ■with appliqtted medallions in a deeper tone.

FAREWELL TO MISS SEAY.

At the Xormal College Cookery Centre yesterday morning the Domestic Science teachers, under the Canterbury Education Board, entertained Miss Aiile Seay at a very pleasant little tea party. Miss Seay leaves to-night for Auckland, whero she will take charge of the Domestic Science section of the Auckland Technical College. On behalf of the teachers, Miss Blackmore, Senior Instructress at tho Domestic Seicnco School, presented Miss Seay with a small memento of her work here. Miss Blackmoro expressed gratification that one who had had tho greater part of her practical training here had been chosen for such a responsible position in Auckland, and she wished Miss Seay the greatest success in her future career.
