WAIMATE.

CHILD INJURED. A little child aged tvro years, daughter of Mr and Mrs Stanley Grut received a nasty cut on the forehead, which necessitated medical attention, through being knocked by one of the swings on the Town Belt. She is now progressing satisfactorily. This is the second occasion on which a member of Mr Grut's family has met with such a mishap. Just prior to Christmas a son of Mr Grut, aged six, was knocked oil the head by a swing, the boy having to have three stitches in his head. School Picnic. The Anglican Sunday School at Willowbridge held their picnic at Bradsliaw's crossing of the Waihao river, when the children, under the charge of the Superintendent of the SundaySchool (Mrs Fletcher) and the teachers, spent a most enjoyable day on the river banks. During the afternoon races and games were held for the amusement of the children. The Rev. Canon Cocks, the vicar, was present, and addressed the gathering, after which io presented the prizes to the scholars. Kelcy's Bush was the scene of another happy gathering yesterday, when Knox Church Sunday School held its annual "picnic there. The children, accompanied by parents and friends and visitors to the town, wero conveyed to the bush in lorries and private cars. The morning was spent in rambling through the bush Niid visiting the various points of interest, and the afternoon was given over to the children's sports. All were unanimous in their expressions of appreciation, formally voiced by the Rev. Mr NichoUt the close of the day's outing; of the good work done by the mayor and councillors in the many improvemcnts which have been made there to add to the pleasure of picnickers. Valedictory. On the occasion of the retirement from the nursing profession of Nurse McCreedy, who has been associated with Nurse Reilly at "El Nathan Home," for some years, mothers of Waimate thought it fitting that n suitable presentation should be mail'.' to her in appreciation of her services.- Accordingly yesterday afternoon a number of mothers gathered on the lawn of the residence of Miss Nicol, Shearman street, where the presentation took place. Nurse Mcßae, Plunket nurse, presided. Nurse Mcßae said she knew that mothers wished to express the gratification and appreeiatir . of what Nurse McCreedy had done for them by giving her a little token— something that she would always be able to keep and remember them by. There were a great number of mothers who were very sorry tliey could not be presont, but they had sent apologies and good wishes. Nurse McCreedy, said the speaker, had been in Waimate, nearly three years, and she had made many good friends. She was a great favourite with mothers. She had done her duty by them, in fact, she had done more than her duty. Nurse McCreedy wns presented with a silver tea and dinner service. Tl-.3 recipient suitably responded, after which the gathering sang, "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow."' , Tennis.
