CANTERBURY- CHAMPIONSHIPS. The amateur athletic championships will tako place at tho English Park Stadium this afternoon at 2 p.m. Great interest is being taken in the cycling, which should bo of a high standard. Grose and Day, Dominion champions, will he seen in action, opposed by I'Anson, Fransden, Ferguson, Waghorn, and Craighead. Grose is riding particularly well at present and is Rapidly improving. His forthcoming tussles with R. W. Lamb, the great Australian champion, invests to-day's championship With particular interest. , Not for many years has such a fine buncn of eprintera entered for'the Canterbury championships. Leadbetter, the University and Dominion title-holder, will have stiff opposition in Johnston (Aauburton), Uai-K and Murphy Technical), and Allen (Old Boys). The times in the 100 yds and 220 yds are expected to be very fast. . An epic struggle should be witnessed in the quarter-milo between Allen Ridgen and Johnston, and as the track is in great condition, fast time should bo rceorded. All the best distance runners will be peen in action, including Taylor, Laing, McEachen, the Adams brothers, and Simpson. At tho conclusion of the day's npovt, the team to represent the province at the Dominion championships in Auckland will be chosen.
