DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TBLEGRAM.) PALMERSTON N„ January 27
Splendid weather again prevailed for the sixth day of the Dominion croquet championships. Progress was well maintained, with tho result that two finals were played today, and the remainder will take place tomorrow or Saturday.
In the final for the handicap doubles, liesdames Watkins and Pitcaithly (Hastings) met Mesdames Harvey (Napier) and Water* (Nelson) in a hard and intorostins tussle. During the early stages of tho game tho Hastings pair were uncertain in their long shooting, with the result that their opponents gained a substantial led. However, they showed considerable improvement after an hour's play, and ran out winners. Mrs Horner (Patea) defeated Miss McFarlane (Manawatu), 26-22, in the Jinal of the B grade..handicap singles. In the handicap singles A. 0. I'. Koss (Christchurch) has won his way into the. finals. He will meet tho winner of tho match between Mesdames E. A. Smith (Christoburch) and Tiffen (Hawko's Bay). The ladies' .championship singles, which are being played under the two-life system, was brought to the semi-final stage m each draw. Additional results: — Dominion Handicap Singles—Fourth round: Mrs E. A. Smith (1) defeated Mrs Ehodes Williams (a). 26-15. Handicap Doubles—Semi-final: Mesdames Watkins and Pitcaithly (1J) defeated Ven. Creed Meredith and Mrs Smith (IJ), 26-—; Mesdames Watkins and Pitcaithly defeated Mesdames Harvey and Waters, 26;24, Dominion Open Championship—Second round: Mrs Watkins defeated Mrs Hodkin-son-3-0: Mrs Tiffen defeated E. J. Ross, 2-1. Third round: Mrs Tiffen defeated Mrs Kib'blewhite by default. - - • Championship Doubles—Ven Creed Mere-, dim and Mrs I'ullor dofeated Chambers and Mrs Maddrcn, 26-19. Ladies' Championship—First draw, second round: Mrs Healey defeatod Miss Blake, 26 24; Mrs Waters defeated Mrs Fuller, 26-24--Mrs Jarvie defeated Mrs. Achoson,. 26-23. Third round: Mrs Jarvio defeated Mrs Young, 26-3 6; Mrs Healey defeated Mrs Glass, 26-20. Fourth round: Mrs McDonald defeated Mrs McMurray, 26-14. Second draw, third round: Mrs Johnson defeatod Mrs Kibblewhite, 26-23; Mrs Kirk defeated Mrs Hogan, 26-15; Mrs Oambr 11 defeated Mrs E. H. Smith, 26-14; Mrs Maddrcn defeated Mrs Murray, 26-4.
