[THE PEESS Spocial Service.] AUCIKLAND, January 11. . "What arc left in?" "Sixes, cursb them." Many brief telephonic convocations to that effect took place evening when bowler 3 competing in. the Dominion championship tournament asked which rinks had survived tho completion of nine rounds of section play in tho rinks competition. Tho rinks competing had been divided into 17 sections of ten rinks each, and a clause in tho conditions referring to post section play states: "The teams to continue play shall bo those with a greater number or the same number of wina as the team which wius or lie 3 for a' win in any section with tho Icaßt number of wins, provided that this least number shall not be less than six." With the last of the nine rounds in progress late this afternoon, tho officials of Carlton green breathed a sigh of relief, for a survey of results made it almost' certain that only teams with seven wins in the nine games would participate in tho postsection play. Later the. telephone began to buzz as results of the final rounds came to hand, and, smiles broadened as the certainty increased that matters wero turning out according to expectation. In fact skips with only six wins began to feel very sorry for themselves. With tho results of only two sections outstanding there was none which did not-*contain a rink with at least seven wins; Then luck played its part. Word came from St. Heiier's green that Sowell (St. John's, Wanganui) had beaten Rcdpath (Canterbury) by one point. The result of that match meant that no' rink- in that section had more than six wins. The announcement received a decidedly mixed reception. To the officials it meant that their work was more than doubled. To teams in other sections with six wins the gato leading to postsection play had'been unexpectedly opened. Instead of only 24 rinka remaining, 59 are now left, and another fair-sized, tournament' will bo necessary to reduce tho rinks to the finalists. .One fateful point has made all this difference. A similar happening occurred when the Dominion tournament waß last held in Auckland in 1923, and, strangely enough, one of the rinks which had just managed to find its way into the post-section stage won the championship, honours'. The question bowlers are now asking is, will history repeat itself? •
