IMPORTANT CONFERENCES. (BY - CABLE—PP.ESB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z.: : CABLE ASSOCIATION.) ' (Received June 22nd, 10 oo p.ni.) MELBOURNE, June 22. The annual meeting of the Federal Executive of the Australian Labour Party decided to refer the question of the forty-four • hour week to the reconstituted Arbitration Court. The executive will also - decide labour's attitude towards Mr Truce's referendum proposals. The Council of the Australian Workers' Union is also, considering the referendum attitude. Prior to the meeting it was stated that there would be a majority in both bodies against the proposals. . . ' If tho Executive Party decides against the proposals, Mr M. Charlton and other members of Parliament will be awkwardly placed, but a split in the Party will be avoided by the Executive deciding that, while it is against the referendum, the members of the Party can have a free hand.
