PAPANUI BURGESSES.
The monthly meeting of the Papanul Burgesses' Association was b.eld last evening, Mr W. Pool being In tho chair. Mr J. H. Reynolds, who has been actingsecretary of tho Association for some time, was appointed secretary. In reply to a letter from the Association, tho Tramway Board wrote stating that in future passengers would not be asked to change from trailers to the front csir. Mr H. Tillman moved his notice of motion in reference to the proposal to alter the boundaries of the Association. He stressed the advantages to be gained by bringing the other portions of tho district Into tho Association's sphere of activities. ' Mr Pool seconded the motion, which was heartily supported by Mr Reynolds, who stated that the Association would never exert tho influence it should do until tho whole of Papanui was represented by the burgesses. Several matters needed attention. Funds were roquired to form a children's playground in the park, for the memorial gates, and a band rotunda for tho proposed brass band. After further discission, the amendments to the rules were carried. A committee, consisting of Messrs W. Pool, J. H. Reynolds, and H. Tillman, was appointed to define the new boundaries and report to the next meeting. It was decided that no action bo taken in regard to a proposal from the Spreydou Burgesses' Association, to revert to the wards system of electing the City Council. The secrotary was requested to write to the Tramway Board, asking for the bus service to be extended to Matson's road; also that an express tram be put on to leave the Square at 5.10 p.m. .... On the motion of Mr J. H. Reynolds, it was decided to call a meeting of ladies and others interested, to work in conjunction with tho Association, to consider ways and means of raising funds for the proposed children s playground and other necessary matters.
