WINTER SHOW.

ASHBURTON POULTRY SOCIETY. The fact that Ashburton reople still tfcin a keen interest in poultry, hcraie industries, and garden produce, was clearly evidenced by fch-ft excellence and higb standards of exhibits together with the .argo numbar of people who attended the opening oi the Aflhburton Poultry, Pigeon, ana Canary S>ciety a annual Winter Show, in the Arcade ■>-f.erday. Although there was a slight fall*ufr 0 entries in eomo of the clashed, this was counteracted by the striking quality oi the majority of the exhibits. The Winter bhow section, consisting of potatoes, riots, and garden produce, wa3 the most attractive feature, and lvae a credit to tha exhibitors. In many caseo the judges had a nard taek in making their final selections, lbo prevalence of distemper among dogs m the county had its effect upon the exhibits as only about ha£/ of the number entered waa shown The quality of the needlework and fancy work was weK up to the standard tu P rev * oU3 shows, while the exhibit in the knitting section was the cause of special mention by the judge. Although not very strong numerically, one of the really high 1 - displays was the marquetry. The South Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association's championships were won h J Tindall, jun. (Modern Game, open Ciass), R. H. Lay (Black Pekin bantam), and C. Bartley (B.hode Island Red cockerel). The New Zealand Kennel Club allotted challenge classes to retrievers and bulldogs. All the arrangements in connexion with tha Show have been capably carried out by the secretary (Mr E. Loftus), assisted by the committee. The awards are as follows-. WINTER SHOW SECTION.
