RUGBY. j TO-DAY'S GAMES. The promise of bright, exciting football should attract many thousands to Lancaster Park this afternoon. The star attraction, the game between Old Boys and Albion, will no doubt be a thrilling. battle, particularly as the Blacks have shown improved form of late. The dashing display against Morivale last Saturday suggests that with a little confidence they may overcome their opponents. Old Boys can be relied on to play their usual game of clean, sparkling football. They are never seen to better advantage than on the oval. The eccentric 'Varsity team are drawn to meet Linwood on the South Ground. -The Maroons have the most promising team m the competition, and have, during the season, from time to time, given brilliant displays of tbe passing game. Linwood, though at the bottom of the competition, ore yet a team to bo reckoned with, and will be greatly strengthened this Saturday with the inclusion of Elvy and Ward. On the West Ground a Senior "B" game, Old Boys v. Linwood, is set down for decision. Both these teams aro well up in the competition, and tlicir. meeting is invested with particular interest. Addington residents will have the opportunity of witnessing a first-class game at the Show Grounds, when Merivale takes the held against Christchurcb. The previous meeting of these teams, provided dashing football, ana to-day's clash should bo equally exciting. On the No. 2 ground, Technical meet Merivalo in the Senior "B." This afternoon at Monica Park will be staged the last of . a series of South Island trial matches arranged by the New Zealand League. Taking part in the match will be players from Otago, West Coast, 'South Canterbury, and North' Canterbury. These players have been selected as the result ol trial matches witnessed by the New.- Zealand selectors at Timaru, Otago. and West Coast, and are what may be termed the cream of the South island players, several having obtained All Black honours in the Rugby Union oode, while others have represented New Zealand at League Among the latter is Wilson-Hall, a splendid type of halibaok, and considered by many to be the flneHt half , playing League football m the Dominion. His style js very attractive, and is greatly admired by those who have seen him play. , . Owing to Canterbury having a number of fine players, the selectors decided to put on an A and B Canterbury team in order to give them all an opportunity to be choson in the South Island to am, to play at Auckland on July 80th.
