CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.
BLOOMS AT SUMNER. The fourth annual chrysanthemum show was held at Sumner yesterday, and will be continued to-day. Tho Mayor of Sumner (Mr W. H. Nicholson) declared the show open. The show of big blooms was tho best yet seen, and the judges stated that the decorative section was better than that at the recent Christchurch show. Two baskets were specially admired. Though the children's section was a small one, that for cooking and preserves was a strong one, the bottled fruit being excellent. Special exhibits included single blooms shown by Mr F. A. Jones, and a root of potatoes weighing 191b shown by Mr Alexander. The Gillanders Cup, for most points, was won by Mr A. F. Graham, the Clephane Cup for the champion locally-grown bloom going to Mrs G, A. Alexander. Rita Fluerty took the Cunningham Cup for most points in the children's class, and Mrs G. A. Alexander secured the McLachlan Rose Bowl for most points in the decorative class. A gold medal presented by Mr J. Duncan, Redclifi's, for tho champion bloom in the show was won by Mr F. A. Thorne, of Woolston. The Premier Bloom certificates were won as follows: Japanese incurved, F. A. Thorne; Japanese roflex, A. E. Petheram; Chinese incurved, F. A. Thorne; single bloom, J. S. Young.
