FAMOUS BAND'S TOUR.
* CONCERT BY ARGYLL AND SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS. Into every city and township in Js'ow Zealand visitors returned from the Xew Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition have carried the fame of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders' Band. Now the Band itself is oc-ming to Chrutchurch, whero it will give two farewell concerts in The King Edward Barracks, on Friday and Saturday, May 7th and Bth. Possessing a 6tirring regimental history, which began 19 years before Waterloo, the Band has also a musical name that has already endured for mors than a century, j The Srst British bandmaster was Mr J. Clowe, who was appointed in 1819, when the regiment was known as the 93rd Highlanders. This famous old regiment has always maintained bands of read excellence, and the prosent organisation is admittedly one of the finest in the British Army, having repeatedly demonstrated its worth to vast audiences throughout the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. The fame of the organisation reste both on the novelty and variety of its popular programmes and on the artistic rendering of symphonic and operatic woris by the masters in the best concert halls in the Old Country, such as the Hoyal Albert and Queen's Hall, London, and Leber »nd St, Andrew's Halls of Edinburgh and Glasgow. The King and Qu«»n hsT ®, quently complimented the conductor, Jlr t. J- Ricketts, on the excellence of bis bands Paying. Mr Rickets lead* his m«n »»&- out the aid of » musical score, conducting entirely from memory. .
