THE ESTUARY.

TO THE EDITOR OK "THE TRESS." Sir,—lt is to be hoped that the proposal to gradually reclaim the Estuary will not be allowed to take practical shape .without the most serious consideration of the public. The idea seems 1 to be to combine utilitarianism with alleged "beautifying." To some of us the carrying out of the proposal "Would be almost criminal. The view of the Estuary from Clifton and Monck's Bay at'all times appeals to the artistic sense, whether at low water, high tide, or in the intervals between. J have heard it stated confidently that this view is the most beautiful in the world; it is the only natural beauty spot of Christchurch. The odour of seaweed, which' is only occasionally noticeable, so. far from being unhealthy,- is quite the opposite. In any case, I trust that the objectionable proposal will not be allowed effect without protest. Some people have the foolish idea that it is only necessary to appoint a board and all will be well. Our' experience of such bodies' should eive'us pause.—Yours, etc., . OZONE. TO THE EDITOB OP "THE rRZSB." Sir, —I hope there will be much clash of opinions at this evening's meeting to elicit the truth about the Estuary. When the truth does'become known—that the ,Estuary mudflats do. give oif health-giving emanations twice a dav; city people .will begin to realise, as the Mt. Pleasant residents have done-, what an asset the Estuary is.—Yours, etc., PETER TROLOVE. iSfc. Andrew's Hill, April 28th.-
