THE WALTHAM SCHOOL BATHS.
TO THE EDITOR Ot "THE PBEBS." ' Sir,—Will you please kindly allow me space in your paper to explain about the ladies' section of the Waltham Amateur Swimming Club? The ladies started a fresh Club about five | yoars ago. Those ou the committee who I could swim taught the little ones swimming. They found then that tliev were not recognised as a Club by the Centre, and could not take part in any carnivals that were held at the baths. It was then they resolved to join the Men's Club, which was willing to help them on, but found they could not teach in the ladies' hours. Hence the asking for mixed bathing. They had opposition, which they expected, but evontually the School Committee gave consent, providing it was under proper control. There was always a matron during mixed bathing, and everything was conducted in a proper manner, and no complaints. The surprise was at the householders' meeting, in 1925, for the election of a school committee. A remark was made by a householder about rcugh play during mixed bathing. He had never been once inside the baths during the season, and it was only hearsay. The committee took control of the baths last October. They take all money for bathes, giviug us back half before the annual.meeting. Why complain' about laxity of the clubs when I have never, seen one school committee member in the baths this last season? Hoping this will explain a lot of misunderstanding in Waltham.—Yours, etc., M. SAVAGE. Waltham road, April 28th.
