LIFE-SAVING.

n'twp BDROK or "th» rasas."Sir,—The'letter from Mr j'. Struthers referring to fife-saving in schools, and commenting .particularly on. a report recently adopted by the executive of the Royal Society, is very interesting, 'l'am sure "all meinbers of Wie'aociety welcome the'enthusiasm of ' a man like Mr Struthers, who has coeohed several successful teams from , Christchurch Boys' High School for the pr John Hall Shield, and has been ' -<ift*fra.mental in a great number of i, . JJfa-Mring awards being gained by the %/ Ptis» oftb*t,great school.. • ?/'" ' JL* ..tPyQ* the sub-committee's lv 1 am fold,-was not orig*. I-' by them for publicsWNmtfr f ' r .

Ivec of .different pupils coaphed up for the society's competition each year instead of'having the same few expert competitors coming up year after year. In this conexion we heartily congratulate >fessrs iSpiller and Griffiths, who have been three years running in the Boys' High School winning teams, but how much better for the society's general welfare as well, as the Boys' High School pupils themselves to have presented each year several teams of fresh competitors. To my. mind these competitions servo to keep the standard of life-saving work no to a state of great efficiency. Naturally, under present conditions, a school enters its finest material, hut instructors of Mr Struthcrs' ralibre should hare little trouble in sclectini: fresh .winning teams each year from the very fine materin! of wliinh his school has so ample a supply.—Yours, etc., KEXNEDV B.VSSETT.. Chairman,' Canterbury Head Centre, Royal Life-Saving Society. Sumner, April 23rd.
