Aliss Boyle is leaving Christchurch on Friday to join their Excellencies Sir Charles and Lady Alice Fergusson i for a six weeks' cruise of the South Seas in the Tutanekei. Atr and Airs J. F. Studholme, who have been for a trip to England, are expected to arrive in Auckland to-day. Thev will return to Christchurch at the beginning of May. Aliss J. Denniston, who has been visi'-ing America and Britain, is arriving in Sydney on the return journey to-morrow. Her sister, Miss Al. Denniston, is going to Wellington to-mor-row to meet her. Air and Mrs Walter Aloore and Aliss Aloore are leaving for the north on Wednesdav to attend the wedding of Air John H. A. Moore and Aliss Nancy Wilson. Mrs Ben Howell, who has been spending a few weeks with her mother, Airs George Rhodes, Beverley, is returning to Cave to-morrow. Air and Airs Algnr Williams have taken Airs J. B. Air and Airs H. Gardiner (Sumner) have returned from a visit to Dunedin and the Southern Lakes. Aliss Leoni Reynolds (Greymouth) is the guest of Aliss May Thacker, Alerivale. Aliss Phyllis Brown (Webb street) has returned from a visit to relatives in the North Island. Air and Airs Harold Goggin (Forfar street) left for the south on Saturday to visit the Exhibition. Mr and Mrs B. Demiclicli, Aliss P. Ayers, and Mr A. Page, leave this morning for a motor trip to Dunedin. Airs A. E. Wilkinson and Aliss K. Tipping have left for a' visit to Sydney. The Executive of the Mothers' Union met on Friday to consider the attitude taken by the Standing Committee of the A.L.O.G. regarding the "Religious Exercises in Schools" Bill. The executive intends asking the Council of the Mothers' Union to re-affirm the resolution passed by the Council on May 27th, 1924. A resolution was passed asking the secretary of the Dominion Council of the Mothers' Union, to furnish particulars of the Society of Women lately formed in Auckland, claiming to be a kindred society of the Mothers' Union. The weekly dance held by the Returned Soldiers' Association in the Jellicoe Hall was well attended on Saturday night, a very enjoyable time being spent. The complete arrangements made for the convenience of dangers, including the cosy lounge, were greatly appreciated. Willyams's Band provided popular music, and the general arrangements were capably carried out by the dan'ce committee and the ladies' supper committee. Oil Saturday evening, an enjoyable surprise party was given in honour of Mr and Mrs Leslie Cooper, to celebrate Mrs Cooper's return after her long sojourn in Australia. The gathering took the form of a kitchen evening, organised by Alesdames Eager and Hay, at whose residence, in Antigua street, it took, place. Mrs Cooper was the recipient of many useful presents. Musical items were contributed, games were enjoyed, the competitions being won-by Mrs Shapcott and Mrs Eager. Amongst those present were, Mrs Cooper (sen.), Mr and Mrs L. Macgregor, Mr and Mrs D. Evans, Misses G. Booth, Hay (2), and T. Rickerby. BIRTHDAY PARTY. At her home in Latimer square on Saturday afternoon,' Mrs W. F. Browne gave a particularly delightful children's party in honour of the birthdays of her two little daughters, Joan and Margot. All kinds of games were engaged, in by the children, and as daylight faded tea was served, the dining-room being beautifully decorated for the occasion, and cleverly-made pa" per flowers being used in a multiplicity of decorative devices. The birthday cake was ornamented with gaily-hued flowers, and butterflies, bonbons, and paper-caps were designed to represent various flowers, and even the trumpets and other toys distributed amongst the guests gained additional attraction from their floral adornment.
After tea the little girls danced happily and at .intervals tried their luck at a well-stocked bran-tub. Airs Browne was assisted in ihe enertainment of the children by her daughter, Miss Gertrude Browne, and her two nieces, Alisses Coreen and Almn Browne, of Dunedin. The guests included Sally and Lucy Wynn-Williams. Judith and Nora Firth, Biddy Gressou, Sheila Macdonald, Janet and Margaret Williams, Theresa Ward, Quetta and Sheila Cordner. Nancy Buchanan.
