CONVENT OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD.
opening' ceremony to-morrow.
, Visitors to Mount Magdala to-morrow will have an opportunity of seeing the growth of tho institution since the small beginnings of forty' years ago. The Sisters showed great foresight in selecting the present property as the locality for their work, because, with the fine area of the farm of 200 acres, it has been an easy matter to find space for the various buildings which have become necessary. When it is remembered that accommodation has to be provided for some 400 girls and women, and that space must bo provided, not only for residential requirements- but a4so for the various employments and industries, the reason for the numerous buildings which have been erected will be appreciated. The ceremony on Sunday will serve to bring this worthy work of charity before the public. It is a rule with the Sisters of the Good Shepherd that they never refuse a deserving case, and the applications for admission have been so numerous that the present work of the new Convent has become a necessity. The Sisters arc very gratified with tho promise of patronage for Sunday's function. Not only will the prominent ecclesiastics of i«ew Zealand bo present, but many citizens who take part in the municipal and Parliamentary work of the community. His Worship the Mayor, Rev. J. K. Archer, has kindly consented to attend and speak, also Mr H. S. S. Kyle, member for the district. His Grace Archbishop O'Shea is expected from Wellington this morning, and Bishop Whyte has come from Dunedin to assist at the ceremony. The Sisters extend a cordial"invitation to all, and wish it. to be known that after the opening-ceremony and the conclusion of the addresses the new Convent building, a fine structure, costing £29,700, will be thrown open for inspection.
