May 22—Oamaru T.C. Winter. June 3, s—Canterbury Park T.C. Winter. June 12—Ashburton T.C. June 19, 23—Auckland T.C. TURF GOSSIP. The acceptances for to-day's races at Trentham are very satisfactory, and as the weather promises to be exceptionally fine, and the track is in firstclass order, another successful gathering is promised. Acceptances for the Ashburton T.C.'s Autumn Meeting close on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Second High-weight Handicap has nine acceptors, and with Perle de Leon out of the _way, Ardfinnan, Sottana, and Asleep will be well supported. The last-named led the field into the straight on Wednesday, and as'the race'to-day is a quarter of a mile shorter, his chance looks favourable. Tommy Dodd will probably start favourite in the Hutt Handicap, while Siaosi, with a strong rider, will be well supported. Zaragoza, with Eastwood in the saddle, will find the ground to her liking. , Mr Knight's mare has been doing good work since the Riccarton Meeting. Perle de Leon will again have the services of Morris in the Muritai Handicap, and on Wednesday's performance should be prominent at the finish. Indian Sage had a bad passage in the Silverstre&m Handicap on the first • day, as did Othon. Both should be more in the fighting line to-day. Fifteen hare paid up for the Pacific Handicap. Limited, if at his best, will be hard to dispose of. Rascal had a bad passage on the. first, day, but finished strongly. Alyson is improving with every race, and on his creditable second ;to Grand Knight in the Challenge Stakes must have good pros--1 pects over six furlongs. Listening Post was hemmed in in the Thompson Handicap and never had a suitable opening at any part of the race. He is certain to show.up better to-day. . Favouritism should rest With him or lloyal Divorce or Baldpwa, but on Great Autumn'running at Riccarton the chances of listening Post look the most favourable. Civility will probably again go out first choice in the Suburban Handicap, with Motley and Shirley next in demand. Polyphemus, who has been doing good track; work, must be given a chance. " Benjora reads well in the Belmont Handicap. The imported Ballymoy II Receipt, and Great Day are also worthy of consideration* Grand Knight was not accepted for in. the Trentham GoH Cup, and five runners will contest the two mile event. Rapine, conceding Income 16 pounds at Auckland, ran him to a head, and with both carrying even weights tc-day, Mr Williams's gelding should reverse the positions. Gold Light has improved considerably since racitfe at Riccarton, and as she has won Handsomely over long distances, the public will give her solid support. Count flavour's great staying powers will stand to him, and as he is very well and has been finishing on in his recent races, he will be a serious proposition. Mask has shown that he can see out a distance by beating Star Stranger over a mile and three-quarters at Auckland., He will not be neglected on the machine. Summed up, the race for the Gold '' Cup is very open, and the final stages should furnish one of the most exent- , ing contests between high-class horses seen at Trentham for many years. Centrepiece ran a good race in'the Railway Handicap on Wednesday, and was seen to make a forward move on the rails halfway down the straight, but was unable to get through the bunched horses in front. Should he have a dear ran to-day his prospeots must be considered with 7 3 to carry. Liinerick has cot through satisfactory work on the Trentham tracks since leaving Riccarton, and should be at his host for Palmerston ' engagements next week. 'ln all probability he will be ridden by McCarten. W. J. Tomkinson has not yet given ' up the idea of-sending Minton Derby against the mile. record and there is every likelihood that he will make the j attempt at the Forbury Park T.C.'s Winter Meeting. The annual fixture of the Ellesmere Trotting Club will be held to-day at Leeston. The club is one of the few that now race in the province without a totalisator permit, but there is always a gOod attendance of followers of the sport, and the racing is usually keen and exciting. For to-day's racing, the crab has secured a capital acceptance, and provided the weather is good, there will be some excellent sport, with a large number of promising pacers and trotters contesting the Various events, ' i WAIPAPAKAURI R.C.
