MAGISTERIAL. FRIDAY. [Before Mr H. A. Young, S:M.) DRUNKENNESS. Margaret Hanabury pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness She was further, charged with procuring liquor during the ; currency of .her prohibition order. "I notice'you have served at term at Pakatoa," said (ho Magistrate. "Every opportunity has been given you." On the tirst charge she was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, and on tbe second she was convicted .and discharged.. A first offending inebriate, a woman, was fined '2os, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. REMANDED Edmund Marriott was charged that on March Bth he did attempt to defraud E. Reese, Ltd., by means of a valueless cheque, of art afternoon tea set and £7 5s in money. He was remanded until April 23rd. DANGEROUS DRIVING. Peter McKinnon was charged with driving a motor-oar in. a manner dangerous to the public. Defendant, who wa» represented by Mr W. J. Hunter, rleaded not guilty. The police stated that the defendant had driven on to the footpath to avoid a truck on the roadway, and had knocked a woman -down. The defendant was found guilty, fined £ls. and his .icenae was endorsedWalter James Keen Adams was charged with driving along Marshland road in a manner dangerous to the public. Accused stated that it was a Sunday morning and he was in a hurry to catch up with a friend who had started out a quarter of an hour earlier. He said that he travel led at about 25 miles per hour for a mile. It was early in the morning and there was not; much traffio on the road. He was fined £lO and costs, and his license was endorsed. .NEGLIGENT DBIVING. Cyril Hill, a taxi-driver, was charged with negligent driving. J. C. Bo*den, motor-driver, said that he was crossing the intersection of Garden and Opawa roads when- he saw defendant coming down Opawa road at about 30 miles per hour. In order to avoid a Collision defendant had swung his car round and crashed into another stationary car alongside the footpath. He was fined £lO and costs, and his license whs endorsed. NO LIGHTS. For cycling at night without a light, the following were fined 20« and costs: —L. P. Christie, Andrew Neil Down, Sydney Harper, Leslie Hill, Andrew Jackson, Herbert Kirk, Albert Roy Mutton, K. N. McGillivrty, and. Vernon Peters. On a similar charge, Robert Allen was fined ss, and Arthur Barnard 10s. Albert Flutey was fined 80s and costs for riding a motor-cycle without lights. For driving a motor-car under the same conditions, George L. Yates was fined 20s and costs. For driving a horse and cart without lights, Edward Carney was fined 20s. UNATTENDED. A. A. Wake was ordered to pay costs for leaving his car unattended. NO LICENSES. For driving • motor vehicle without a license, George Edward Broom was fined £4. On a similar charge Thomas Howley was fined £3. Gordon Eric Frasor was ordered to pay coats for a similar charge, and for pillion riding he was fined 20s. Leslie Edyveen was similarly charged. He was fined £3 on the first charge, and ordered to pay costs on the second. Robert Cole was fined £3 for driving without a license, and for pillion riding he was fined 20s.
CYCLING ON FOOTPATH. For cycling on the footpath, tho following wen fined 80s and costsi-Oharlos Browning, Henry Davoy, Samuel East, LesHe Evans, and Robert Gay. On a similar charge Joseph Southcrwpod was fined 58 and costs. MISCELLANEOUS. For pillion riding, the following were fined 20b and costs: —John Henry Shacklock and S. K. Simpson. For having illegible numbers on his car, Thomas George Low was fined 10s. A charge against •W. H. Tisdall for a breach of tho Arms Act was dismissed. ... Fpr. failing to notify the Deputy-Registrar of the sale of a motor-vehicle, tho following were fined:—A. J. Archibald 20s, Cyril Gilbert 10s, Robert F. Black'los. The Supply Stores were fined 20s for employing an unlicensed driver. CORRECTION. In tho Mngistr&te'a Court news yesterday it wa* stated in error that, A. Maxey was ordered, to pay .Michael Gobs £l9 10a 4d, in default 21 daya' imprisonment. The (act waa that Michael Goss, the judgment debtor, was ordered to pay this turn to Mr Maxey. '
