The specifications for the alterations at the Addingtbu railway workshops may be out at the' end of this month, but the. tenders will probably-not close until the end of the year. There is a fair amount of work to be done, but it is, not of any great urgency. As a result of, the. big'washout in May, 1923, on the Arthurs Pass f do of Kowhai Bush, the temporary line in the north tunnel was re-made on a steep grade. Re-grading work is to commence almost immediately. About 'fifteen' months ] ago there was. a heavy... washqut,, at: the. Eyre River Bridge, near Oxford, and, as a result, the railway line between Oxford and Sheffield' was closed. It has never been opened since. • Repair work to the bridge and the line will commence next Week
