POPPY DAY.

TO RELIEVE UNEMPLOYMENT. The object of Poppy Day (April 23rd) is to relieve unemployment during the winter months, preference being given tn Returned Soldiers. The total amount of money collected is subsidised by various local bodies. This year approximately 24,000 poppies are for disposal, and will be sold in the City streets on Friday next at Is each, a few larger flowers being priced at 2s each. The committee in charge of the arrangements met in the Jellicoe Hall yesterday, Mrs W. S. Bean' presiding over a fair attendance. Arrangements for allotting stalls were made, and it was announced that more helpers were required. People desiring to give assistance may leave their names at the Returned Soldiers' Club; .
