SURPRISE PARTY. A party of residents of Little River organised a surprise party which •visited Mrs Ferguson's house on Monday night. There were about fifty present, and the house was full to overflowing. Games, cards, and music were much enjoyed. An overflow party of yoiiiij! men carried a table outside and played cards by the light of an outside wall lamp. The ladies provided a plenteous supper. During the evening a presentation was made to Mrs Ferguson and Miss Mollie Ferguson, by Mr Aitken, on behalf of the residents. Mrs Ferguson has resided in Little River for some sixteen years, and as was remarked by the speakers, that there! was never a "call for help from anyone sick or in trouble which was not instantly responded to by Mrs Ferguson, who will be much missed from the district. Mr Morry Barclay, also spoke mentioning the various kindnesses Mrs Ferguson had done him and his family. The presentation to Mrs Ferguson consisted of a handsome morocco handbag, containing a substantial roll of , .notes. To Miss Mollie Ferguson a handsome bedroom clock was given. After giving three hearty cheers for Mrs and Miss Ferguson, the guests departed shortly before midnight, having spent a very pleasant evening. VALEDICTORY. Ac the Orthopaedic Department of the Christchurch Public Hospital last week, the presentation of a valuable etching was made to Sister S. L. Clark, N.Z.A.N.S., who, after five years' service as Sister-in-Charge of the Medical Massage ■ and Orthopaedic Branch, has senered her connexion with the Hospital to start in private practice as an electro-therapists and medical masseuse. Miss Salter, in making the presentation from the staff, spoke in eulogistic terms to Sister Clark's expert knowledge, and to the respect and regard for her evinced by all members of the Department. Good' wishes for Sister Clark's success were expressed by all present. It is interesting to note that Sister Clark is the holder of a Royal Red Cross (Ist class) for meritorious work during five years' war service.
