AUSTRALIAN CRUISERS.
SAIL FOR HAURAKI GULF. (PEESS ASSOCIATION VELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 7. The three Australian cruisers, Sydney, Adelaide, and Delhi, left Wellington on Saturday afternoon, for the Hauraki Gulf, where they are to exercise with the ships of the New Zealand Squadron. Their stay in port has been very much enjoyed by the men. Commodore Wardle said he was very proud of the behaviour of the men, whose conduct, he thought, no one could say, had not been exemplary. Commodore Wardle forwarded the following letter to the Mayor: "On leaving your mo3t hospitable city, the officers and men under my command desire to join me in thanking you, and the citizens, for the welcome and kindness which have been extended to them. This is the first time that his Majesty's Australian ships have visited New Zealand as a squadron, and we welcome the opportunity given us of making new friendships and reviving old ones. The close ties between New Zealand and Australia are strengthened by occasions such as this. Our visit has been most pleasant, and we take away none but the happiest memories, wishing Wellington and New Zealand all. possible success in the future.
