ELMWOOD CLUB. The Elm wood Tennis Club was opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr F. W. Johnston, the president,. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was a large attendance.. ' Mr E. H. Andrews outlined what it was proposed to do in the way- of future improvements to the park, and commented on the enthusiasm., that everyone connected with the shown in the early stages ,of the project. He then called upon Mr Johnston to open the courts. Mr Johnston said that he was "lire of .the successful. future of tlie new dub. The tennis match in the Batfgiora and Kaiapoi . inter-borough competitions for the Mcintosh Shield was played on. the R»ngi» bra courts on Saturday in the presence of a large number of 'spectator*, who followed the play with keen interest. The match provided some of thereat tennia seen on the courts this .season, and lo even was the 'score, throughout. that.the result remained in doubt to the end.
