The slump in the Stock Exchange ' n New York and elsewhere in the United States is now being felt in trade tittles throughout tho whole country, hairing caused a general depression in buying. It is estimated that 4,000,000 dollars have changed hands during the last few days, the winners being mostly men already prosperous, while the losers constituted a considerable aectiois of tho buying public. As a result, department stores and other retailers have noted a marked decrease in sales, and automobile firms have also suffered, in consequent® of which they are considering reducing prices to stimulate business. Many fashionable dressmakers have received cancellations of ord«s, and even theatres are feeling the piocb through loss of patronage.
