"NO STANDING."
RUGBY LEAGUE DELEGATE REPUDIATED.
Statements mado by way of interjection and in the course of discussion at the special meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League, held on Saturday evening,'indicated the opinion was fairly geuerali that the recent conference of the New Zealand Council to appoint managers for tlie tour of England was "paekeel" by interested parties. All of the clubs wero represented at the meeting, and Mr T. Kirton occupied the chair. Mr W. Healoy took objection to the presence of Mr C. B. Hardingham, who he stated was ineligible to attend as a club delegate, having represented Tiinaru Centre at the recent conference of the New Zealand council. Mr Hardingham said he had been appointed to represent the Hornby Club. Mr Healey contented himself with obtaining an undertaking from the chairman that his objection would be noted. Later in the evening the matter was again discussed, and Mr Hardingham was asked to explain his action. He stated that Mr J. Carlaw, president of the League, had received a tpfegram through Mr E. L. McKeon, advising him that the speaker had been appointed delegate for South Canterbury. The chairman said Mr Hardingham had told him that he was going to Wellington to take Drr Thackgr's place. He inferred from this that Mr Hardingham regarded himself as a Canterbury delegate. Mr E. Healey said he supported the chairman. Mr F. Smyth was the only dissentient when a resolution was put, approving the action of Mr Kirton in instructing the secretary to inform Mr Hardingham that he had 110 standing as a Canterbury delegate.
